The second and third days of training were the toughest for Leaven. She was sore all over and her brain pulsed with ache the more information she pounded into it or magic she summoned out of it. Despite her pain she was improving rapidly much to everyone’s surprise, even herself. Her attendance at a couple Japanese drumming workshops actually came in handy during her combat training. It had given her a good grounding stance and flow in her arms.

When Colt had tried to train her with a bow and arrow, however, she wasn’t as good. She couldn’t grasp the concept. In fact, in the sixth grade she went on a field trip called Outdoor Lab. She and Nigel were signed up for the archery course but neither of them could even get the arrow to go more than a foot away from them. It was clear to both of them that if they were going to be in a medieval battle at any point they would be more likely to use a sword. Even though she had zero practice with it. Even when she did get dragged into those kendo club open houses and she hit herself in the face that first time, well, that was only one time. Her classmates encouraged her to try again and would give her tip on improvement. She worked hard to at least try but she never believed she was actually good at it because none of her classmates would ever admit she was doing something poorly out of politeness to the foreign girl. So when Colt complimented her on her grip and control in her swing, she wasn’t completely certain it was authentic though it didn’t make his words any less unpleasant to hear.

Nigel had shockingly proven to be an excellent tutor in helping her memorize all the different species of mythical creatures, their desires, their weaknesses, and the fastest ways to kill them. She was quick to answer him during his pop quizzes and even able to catch him when he gave her trick questions. They even dabbled into the archives and tried a little race to see if she could find the specific artifact listed in the archives in limited time. It may or may not have turned into a racing game between herself and the other housemates for a bit. Hal had come back to teaching her magic with Sen but ever since her first day she hadn’t really been able to produce any more fire. Instead they decided to focus on her knowing the spells and incantations, even if she couldn’t perform them herself.

Even with Colt during their intuition and meditation classes she wasn’t able to conjure up any more visions. Colt helped her train her to calm her senses and let her chakras flow but no more images came to her mind of the same sort. They focused on yoga and meditation which was relaxing and helped Leaven forget about the stress each day came with as the clock ticked.
